I've always moved around a lot. I grew up with construction all around me. In the Seventies we played in construction sites and half-built houses; trees were young, shopping malls were new.
We jumped out of half-built apartment blocks into sand piles below, sneaked into unfinished houses to smoke cigarettes as teenagers. As I grew older I continued to move - different houses, cities, other countries.
More and more, home becomes something we internalise. Dorothy in The Wizard Of Oz runs away from small-town Kansas, embarking on an adventure to find herself. Eventually she realises, as many of us do, THERE'S NO PLACE LIKE HOME, THERE'S NO PLACE LIKE HOME, THERE'S NO PLACE LIKE HOME.
All of the Houses I've Ever Lived In is a small inventory-taking project.
