Shortly after my 18th birthday in 1987, my then boyfriend and I went to the local photo studio to have our Friendship-Picture* taken - as was quite common in my rural home town. The photographer requested a typical standard pose: one person was to sit on the chair, hands in lap, head slightly tilted; the other person sitting on the arm of the chair, one hand on the upper thigh, head slightly moved towards the friend. For us, it was kind of a special ritual to show one's friendship. Often copies were sent out to relatives. Over the years these people often lose touch with one another but the pictures still exist in photo albums or cardboard boxes, amongst those well-known Poesie-Albums**. They are a small contribution to local history of its time (of mainly GDR youth), which I intend to research and document.

* Friendship-picture - referring here to the photographs of oneself with a boy-/girlfriend, best friend or school friend, usually in postcard size; age around 15 - 18 years
** Poesie-Album (or friendship book) - selected schoolmates and teachers would write little phrases or rhymes, often decorated with drawings and pictures
